It is Ride The Wind Day! Enjoy one of the last days of summer with the wind blowing in your hair as you look out over a beautiful horizon, fly a kite, go sky diving or sit pool side with your favorite drink in hand.
August 23rd is Ride The Wind Day. It was
created to commemorate the anniversary of the first human-powered flight to win
the Kremer Prize. It was on August 23, 1977, that the Gossamer Condor 2, flew a
figure-eight course specified by the Royal Aeronautical Society, at 11 mph,
traveling at a distance of 2,172 meters.
You can still see the Gossamer Condor 2 at the Smithsonian National Air and
Space Museum.
